Docflow Get Chrome Extension

Privacy Policy

Your recordings stay on your device.

Last updated October 8, 2026

What the extension stores

When you record a workflow, Docflow saves the workflow title, the steps you took (page URL, page title, the label of the button, link or field you used, and when it happened) and a screenshot of the visible page for each step. This data is stored in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) on your computer.

Docflow does not save the text you type into fields. For dropdowns and checkboxes it keeps only the visible option label or the checked state, and it skips even that for fields that look like passwords or payment details.

What leaves your device

Nothing, unless you export it or choose to use AI writing. Docflow has no account, no backend and no analytics. It does not upload recordings or screenshots anywhere. Exporting creates a file on your computer, and Copy for Google Docs puts the guide on your clipboard; what you do with them is up to you.

Optional AI writing

AI writing is off until you add your own OpenAI API key in AI settings. When you click Generate with AI or an AI button next to a field, the extension sends the workflow title, your workflow details, page names and paths (without query strings), button and field labels, and the current text directly to OpenAI under your key. Screenshots are only sent if you select them, with your blur applied. Docflow never sends anything to OpenAI on its own, and OpenAI's own terms apply to what you send. Requests ask OpenAI not to store the response.

By default your API key is kept in memory and forgotten when Chrome closes. If you choose to remember it, it is saved in the extension's storage in your Chrome profile, unencrypted. Web pages cannot read it, and it is never included in exports.

Screenshots can contain sensitive information

Visible password and payment fields are blurred automatically in screenshots. Everything else on screen, such as names, emails or values that were already on the page, is captured as shown. Review each screenshot before sharing an export. The editor lets you blur areas, crop, replace or remove screenshots.

Permissions

  • Side panel, tabs and scripting: to show the recorder, follow the tab you are recording and observe your clicks there.
  • Site access: requested when you first start recording, so Docflow can run on the pages you record and capture screenshots.
  • Storage and unlimited storage: to keep recordings and screenshots locally.
  • Identity: reserved for an optional upload to your own Google Drive. It is not used unless that feature is enabled and you choose it; Docflow never signs you in on its own.

Deleting your data

Delete a workflow in the editor to remove it and its screenshots. Removing the extension from Chrome deletes all of its stored data.
