Get Docflow for Chrome
Docflow is not on the Chrome Web Store yet. Until it is, you can install the developer preview from a ZIP in about a minute.
- Version
- 0.3.0
- Released
- October 8, 2026
- Browser
- Chrome 116 or later
- Size
- 260 KB ZIP
Install the developer preview
The ZIP is not a one-click installer. Chrome loads it as an unpacked extension, which takes six short steps.
Works in Google Chrome 116 or later on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Other Chromium browsers with side panel support may work but are not tested.
- 1
Download the ZIP
Save docflow-extension-v0.3.0.zip to your computer.
- 2
Extract the archive
Unzip it to get a folder named docflow-extension-v0.3.0. Keep it somewhere permanent: Chrome loads the extension from this folder.
- 3
Open chrome://extensions
Type chrome://extensions into the address bar and press Enter.
- 4
Enable Developer mode
Turn on the Developer mode switch in the top-right corner of the page.
- 5
Click Load unpacked
Use the Load unpacked button that appears in the toolbar.
- 6
Select the extracted folder
Choose the extracted folder (the one that contains manifest.json). Docflow appears in your extensions list.
Your first recording
- Pin Docflow from the puzzle-piece menu, then click its icon to open the side panel.
- Open the web app you want to document, give the workflow a title and click Start recording.
- Allow site access when Chrome asks. Docflow needs it to follow your clicks and take screenshots.
- Do the task. Click Stop recording, then open the documentation editor to review and export.
Known limitations
- To upgrade from 0.2.0, replace the files in the folder you loaded with the files from the new ZIP, then click Reload on Docflow in chrome://extensions. Your workflows are kept. Do not remove the extension to upgrade: removing it deletes its recorded workflows.
- Version 0.1.0 used a different extension ID. Workflows recorded in it stay in that copy: export them before removing it.
- This is a developer preview. Manually installed extensions do not update automatically: download and load a new version to upgrade.
- Chrome may show a reminder that developer-mode extensions are enabled. That is expected for unpacked installs.
- Chrome does not allow extensions to record its own pages (chrome://), the Chrome Web Store or the built-in PDF viewer.
- Interactions inside embedded frames (iframes) are not recorded.
- Screenshots capture the visible part of the page only, and only while the recorded tab is in front.
- Very fast single-page transitions can occasionally be captured just after the screen changes. You can replace any screenshot in the editor.
